GranMixer DXT
GrandMixer DXT is a musician, producer, songwriter, and DJ who is set apart from the rest in musical innovation. In his early career DXT, (formally known as D.S.T.) was the main DJ at the number one club in NYC; The Roxy. DXT is best known for using the turntable and operating it as a musical instrument. His mentor Herbie Hancock coined the phrase "turntablism" when referring to the technique GrandMixer DXT uses, and earned GrandMixer DXT a spot on the Grammy Awards stage in 1984 where he along with Herbie Hancock and the Rockit Band received a Grammy Award for Best R&B Instrumental Performance. In more recent years, GrandMixer DXT has been inducted into the Guitar Center Rock Walk of Fame in 2014. He has also won an additional Grammy in 2018 for Best Music Film as a contributor to the music for HBO’s Defiant Ones, a four-part documentary, that tells the life stories of record executive Jimmy Iovine and record producer Dr. Dre.
GrandMixer DXT has restored the highly acclaimed Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, uncovered by the Library of Congress by utilizing the digital capabilities of today’s technology to restore analog tapes of yesterday. (Forensic Editing™) The recording is now available on Thelonious Records, distributed by Blue Note. In 2018, GrandMixer DXT performed with Herbie Hancock for the 100th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra... a historic event that took place at the Hollywood Bowl in CA. More recently, in July 2019 GrandMixer DXT and Herbie Hancock were once again requested to perform with an orchestra. This time it was with the NPO (National Philharmonic Orchestra) for NASA’s 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC along with other notables such as Pharrell Williams, LeVar Burton, Meredith Vieira and more!
As a result of DXT’s various accomplishments and for his contributions to urban and popular music and the community, he has become a recipient of proclamations from the mayors of both the city of Mount Vernon NY and Bridgeport CT. Last but not least, DXT continues to keep the youth of our communities in the forefront of his mind.
GrandMixer DXT is the founder and creator of Team Hip-Hop; a team of legendary music artists who cycle in bike tours in order to bridge the gap between adults and our youth. Most recently, Team Hip-Hop participated in the Tour de Bronx in October 2018. The team also holds master classes in communities that are in need of education as it pertains to health, nutrition, career, the arts, agriculture and more.
